Clear Night Sunny Wednesday Heavy Downpours Thursday Morning Commute
Last night’s cold front as well offshore at our latitude and it swept the clouds out to sea making for a nice sunny afternoon. However notice that the southern end of the front is hanging along the North Carolina coast southwestward into Georgia. The bottom of the front is stalling out and a wave will be developing on it. This wave will be headed up the coast with some heavy downpours Thursday morning. Before that however we have dry clear skies to enjoy tonight and a nice sunny day on Wednesday though some high clouds will start coming in late in the day. The wind will be from off the ocean so temperatures will be kept in check with highs in the low to mid 70s with 60s along the immediate coast. There are no rain issue obviously for tonight and Wednesday.
Clouds will increase Wednesday night as the low move northward. Look for heavy downpours to move in during the early morning hours before daybreak and then gradually ending mid to late morning from south to north. This is about a 6 to 8 hour round of rain. There could be some rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches with some localized flooding. It might be a good idea to give yourself some extra time for the Thursday morning commute. Weather conditions will be slow to improve during the afternoon until a cold front passes. I’m throwing in another chance for a scattered late day shower or thunderstorm just in case. Skies clear out Thursday night and dry weather returns on Friday.
The next high goes right to the Southeast Coast on Friday. Dry nice air with sunshine is forecast Friday with highs in the 70s to near 80. Everything is on course for a late spring/early summer weekend for Father’s Day. Saturday will be warm and sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s. Then Sunday will be a hot and more humid day for Father’s Day with highs in the 80s to near 90. I don’t think any thunderstorms will threaten until Sunday night keeping the dayside rain free.
We may be dealing with that frontal boundary for much of next week so we need to see where it sets up. Monday could be another very warm to hot day because the first front will likely weaken and fall apart waiting for a stronger push that might come on Tuesday. Summer is getting close and the atmosphere seems to be revving up for its arrival.
