Sunshine Ocean Wind Slow Warm Up Into The Weekend
The next 2 days it is all about the wind direction as that will be driving the warming trend. Today is a perfect example of how the wind direction impacts the temperature. Winds while on the light side (except along the immediate coast) are going to be all from the southeast from coast to inland. Ocean water temperatures are at best in the low to mid 40s so that basically keeps temperatures from rising.
One thing that stands out on the satellite loop is the absolute absence of clouds in the Eastern half of the Us with the exception of Florida. Bone dry Canadian air yesterday drove dew points down to the single digits with humidity levels down in the 20% range. This is keeping cloud cover to a minimum today and Thursday until later in the afternoon as a cold front approaches. Highs today will be in the 40s to near 50 as the map shows above. Temperatures on Thursday will head a few degrees higher in the 40s coast and 50s to near 60 well inland. Over the next 2 days the further west you go, the warmer the temperatures will be.
Let’s move to Friday because here likes a cautious view. We have a cold front to our north that is dropping southward. It seems that the front will drop far enough south to lie across NYC or nearby. This makes forecasting temperatures a horrible dilemma. If the front makes it as far south as the NAM model has it will mean areas north of the front in the Hudson Valley & Connecticut will not get out of the 40s while areas south of NYC could reach into the 60s on Friday. Beware of where you are with respect to the cold front on Friday.
Saturday the front backs northward so I still believe Saturday will be the day where just about about everyone gets into the mid 60s to lower 70s but again cloud cover will be very important here regarding how high. A cold front approaches on Sunday with the chance for showers. If the front moves along weather conditions could improve during Sunday afternoon. Chilly drier air will move in next week as long as the front keeps moving and we don’t get any last minute complication by a frontal wave offshore. Odds favor that low getting suppressed to the southeast at this point.
