Thanksgiving Turkey Coldest In Years Cold Air Arrives Later Tuesday

Cold Bottoms Out Thanksgiving Day

The weather this entire month of November has been on the cold side of normal. It is no wonder that we endured an early season 6 to 12 inch snowfall because of it. The weather pattern continues to deliver cold air masses into the Eastern US and the Northeast in particular. The next round of colder air begins to arrive on Tuesday and we will see temperatures drop into the upper teens to mid 20s by Wednesday morning inland and near 30 along the coast. Then the core of the cold air moves in Wednesday night into Thursday morning with lows in the teens to mid 20s.

After the Thanksgiving turkey is digested you can prepare for a second night of very cold temperatures. Early Black Friday shoppers will have to bundle up for sure as temperatures will be headed into the 20s and teens again for Friday morning.

We will have some work today getting there to the cold air. Clouds have rolled in today ahead of a frontal boundary which is going to stall over us late tonight and Monday. Cloudy skies will hold temperatures down today in the 40s. There could be a few passing rain showers overnight into Monday morning. At least for today, there are no issues regarding showers.

Monday the frontal boundary will be laying there to our south and keeping us in clouds with temperatures in the 40s. A wave develops on that front and brings some showers along the coast. Just inland however it could be cold enough for some wet snow and a coating to an inch or two is not out of the question, especially in elevated areas in parts of Northern New Jersey to the Hudson Valley and interior Connecticut.

We will keep an eye on the models for any hint of upside here. There doesn’t seem to be enough cold air this time around for any issues but after last week’s early snow, it would be best to keep alert. An arctic front arrives later Wednesday afternoon and evening with the chance for a snow shower and arctic air follows for Thanksgiving day. We will at least see plenty of sunshine for Thanksgiving Day but those daytime temperatures will be a bit tough to bear.

Temperatures will begin to moderate as we head into the weekend. While there are no big storms on the horizon, the cold air does pull out and we could see some rain or showers next Saturday night or Sunday as low pressure comes in from the west.
