LONG RANGE SHOWING BLOCKING PATTERN WITH A STRONG JET WELL TO THE SOUTH
VERY END OF THE MONTH & FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER COULD PROVE INTERESTING
We continue to follow the recent trends of the long range models as they point to a rather dynamic looking pattern developing in the next several weeks. Key to all of this is the collapsing North Atlantic Oscillation or NAO which will displace the jet stream well to the south of normal across the United States. It is under these circumstances that you can see colder than average temperatures in the East. Under the right circumstances you can also get noreasters as we remember last March when the NAO collapsed to extreme negative readings and the outcome was 4 noreasters in 3 weeks.
We jumped way ahead in the long range just to illustrate what is happening and while the exact upper air flow is a mystery for quite awhile, we can accept the concept of this general idea of higher pressures and heights over the Arctic regions and an active jet stream well to the south of average. We might see the first system in this pattern come on to the scene next weekend with low pressure along the East Coast.
This weekend and next week through Friday it should be fine. No major storms are forecast with just minor systems impacting our weather and temperatures in general cooler than average. Much of the nation will be dry Wednesday of next week and Thanksgiving day.
