COLD AUTUMN WEEKEND 30S & 40S TODAY WITH GUSTY WINDS
ANOTHER STORM MOVES UP THE COAST RAIN MONDAY NIGHT & TUESDAY
Last night’s cold front is long gone and now we sit back and watch the leaves come down on this chilly mid Autumn weekend. We are seeing sunshine across much of the area. There isn’t a whole lot of cloud cover around but some patchy clouds will likely pop up here and there. We also have a gusty wind to go along with the chilly air and winds will gust from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph at times today making things feel even colder. Temperatures have already reached their highs for the day overnight so we will see readings settle in the low to mid 40s at best for the rest of today.
Yesterdays’s storm system is now cranking away in Eastern Canada with high pressure moving into the Ohio Valley today and tonight. We are some lake effect action today in parts of Western Pennsylvania and upstate NY and the snow bands are going to put down several inches or more in some places. I would not rule out the possibility of a stray snow shower making its way across the Catskills are parts of the Hudson Valley today.
Radars are showing showers from the old cold front offshore and you can see snow shower bands stretched out east to west across Pennsylvania. Look for these snow showers to diminish somewhat late today and tonight as the high to the west begins to build in and flow off the lakes starts to weaken.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Tonight is going to be a cold one with lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s under a clear sky. There will be a breeze or at least enough of one to keep temperatures mostly uniform. Less wind and sunshine for Sunday is forecast with highs back into the 40s.
Overnight weather models show very little change with the next system. If anything it is a bit faster so look for increasing clouds on Monday with rain arriving Monday evening from south to north. This will likely produce snow across Central and Western Pennsylvania through upstate NY from the Catskills northward. It will be elevation driven though this time around due to a colder environment more areas will participate. This is not an issue here for us and it will be another raw soaking rain with temperatures Monday and Tuesday pretty much swimming in the 40s.
Another shot of cold air follows for Tuesday & Wednesday. The map above shows forecast lows for Wednesday morning and that is very cold for the middle of November. We will see dry weather for Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Weather models overnight showed a number of developments and changes in the long range as the pattern eases a bit to a milder one for Thanksgiving week. However there are also other factors in play that will have an impact as we move along into December. We will likely discuss this later today in our daily live stream on youtube.
