Snow Overspreads Area
Snow is underway now as the radars are rather impressive and snow is heading to the east. The next thing we are looking ahead to is where it changes to rain and in some areas whether it changes to rain at all. Temperatures are borderline near or above freezing.
HRRR SURFACE MAP AND RADAR OVERNIGHT CLICK TO ANIMATE
The HRRR model shows the rain snow line gets to about NYC and the South Shore of Long Island before collapsing to the southeast. The HRRR has pulled back slightly on the snow amounts from earlier today keeping max amounts in the 3 to 5 inch range which to me seems reasonable. I’m making no changes in my original forecast from yesterday. The HRRR matches up pretty well with what i forecasted so we shall see what happens.
HRRR SNOW FORECAST OVERNIGHT
The satellite picture shows the clouds racing across the northeast. This system is moving very quickly which will keep amounts from getting out of hand. The temperatures above freezing will probably reduce problems on roadways overnight. This is all out of here during the early morning hours and by daybreak most of the area will wake up to sunshine.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
There is no cold air behind this storm so Sunday will be a beautiful days with sunshine, melting snow and temperatures in the 40s. Even warmer air begins to arrive on Monday as head into the upper 40s to mid 50s. Some showers with a warm front will move through Monday night. Then Tuesday it will feel like spring with clouds and some sun. Highs will reach the 60s Tuesday with some spots close to 70.
The same holds for Wednesday with highs in the 60s to lower 70s. Then some showers with the next cold front arrive and it will cool down for Thursday and Friday.
