Meteorological Spring Begins Tuesday
While astronomical spring is still 3 weeks away, March 1st begins the 3 months where temperatures warm the fastest. Average highs rise from the low to mid 40s at the beginning of March to the low and mid 50s at the end of the month. Nature however seldom simply flips a switch and turns seasons off and on. It is usually an uneven trip higher depending on the overall pattern. For tonight colder air will be moving in but it only means temperatures will fall into the 30s by morning. Satellite loop shows clouds moving across NY and Pennsylvania which marks the leading edge of that colder air. However the coldest air will stay well to the north.

Radars locally and regionally should remain relatively quiet through Tuesday. We should start Tuesday with some sunshine but then clouds will start coming in during the afternoon. Highs will be in the 40s to around 50. There will be a wind off the ocean so coastal areas will be in the lower end of that range while inland areas will be on the upper end of the range. Temperatures Tuesday night will hold steady or even rise ahead of the next cold front that arrives on Wednesday. Showers are likely to develop from west to east during the early morning hours on Wednesday. Much like today those showers will be done by midday Wednesday. That will be followed by a colder air mass that will bring us back down to normal or even a little bit below normal for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Temperatures Wednesday will reach the 50s to near 60 in the morning and fall through the 40s by late afternoon Wednesday and into the 20s Wednesday night. Thursday’s highs will not be out of the Thursday
With regards to the longer range weather models are looking at 2 weather systems. One is for later Friday into Friday night. Right now the most reliable Euro model says this storm will stay to our south and east and this is the way we would lean at this point. A weaker system could come through Saturday night into Sunday morning could come through with a little bit of snow. After this weekend the weather pattern for next week warms up considerably.
The map above shows above and below normal temperatures for Monday of next week. We are close to normal but notice the large area of much above normal temperatures to the west. That warm air will be heading this way for the middle part of next week and perhaps beyond that.
