Brutal Cold Air Winter Weekend
There are two other issues regarding the weather late this week. The first thing that we do know for sure is that we will see the coldest weather of the winter this weekend. In fact it would not be a surprise to see temperatures below zero over a large area come Sunday morning. The second issue is whether there will be one more storm system on the arctic front Friday night giving us accumulating snow before the bitter cold air arrives. That right now is the bigger question.
Brutal Cold Air Winter Weekend GFS Model Run for Friday Night
Last night’ European model developed that low into a pretty impressive snow producer showing 9 to 12 inch snows out of it for Friday night into Saturday morning. Today’s European has backed away from that extreme but still has some sort of wave coming through. I think the possibility is there for it so we will start to focus on that once we get done with the next 2 days and a few more rounds of snow into Wednesday.
Brutal Cold Air Winter Weekend Sunday Morning Temperatures
This is the temperature map from the GFS for Sunday morning. As cold as it is the European is actually about 10 degrees colder! It shows temperatures below zero Sunday morning down to central New Jersey with -10 readings into the Lower Hudson Valley and most of Connecticut. By far this will be the coldest air mass of the winter.
In the meantime lets resolve the snow issues over the next 2 days and then begin to think about how many extra blankets we need and extra logs on the fireplace to keep warm.
