Arctic Air Pulls Out, Moderation Begins
Arctic air or at least the core of the arctic air mass usually doesn’t last longer than a day or two unless you have a strong block in place and we are not quite there yet in the overall pattern.
The satellite loop shows very little cloud cover in the eastern part of the United States and with high pressure overhead we should see a good deal of sunshine today and temperatures rebounding off their morning lows to the upper 30s and even a few lower 40s.
Not much is expected to show up on the radar until Friday night or early Saturday when the weekend weather system begins to get underway. Early overnight models track the weather system even further to the west. Right now the weather looks dry with sunshine on Thursday and sunshine with arriving clouds on Friday. Highs both days will be in the 40s. Saturday we will see highs in the lower to middle 40s with some 30s northern areas as an onshore flow gets established. The wind off the ocean will make Saturday a raw chilly day but precipitation should be light. Inland areas well north of the major metro areas might see a little sleet or freezing rain early on but right now it doesn’t appear to be anything of consequence.
A solid line of showers will move through on Sunday and temperatures could reach the 50s in some areas briefly before the front passes. More cold air will come in next week.
Here is the latest long range video regarding this storm and the pattern for next week. Long range arctic air will return next week and it looks like 2 shots of arctic air will be in play. Whether there is any snow with that cold arctic air remains to be seen.
