Cold Arrives Monday, Bitter Cold Monday Night!
The shot of cold Canadian air is lining up and getting ready to arrive late tonight and Monday. The core of the cold air will be here Monday night and Tuesday morning and we will see the coldest air of the winter. It is actually the first shot of cold air because we didn’t see any during the record warm December. Monday we will see temperatures going no where and gradually dropping below freezing as the day wears on. Cold morning lows will be in the mid teens to single digits Tuesday morning.
Satellite loop shows the clouds moving from north northwest to south southeast so this cold shot primarily hits the eastern and Northeast US and not the midwest so much. The upper air system will keep on moving because there is no blocking in place. Wednesday morning will be cold but temperatures should moderate through the 30s on Wednesday and we may be back into the 40s on Thursday.
Radar is showing lake effect snows developing. I still think its possible that we could see a burst of snow during the day on Monday in some places which could whiten the ground in spots. Check the National Weather Service snowfall forecast maps for specifics for your area.
