COLD AIR COMING AS COLD FRONT APPROACHES
The current temperature map and winds indicate that the cold front is approaching the coast. Temperatures ahead of it are in the 30s. Behind the front it is in the 20s with clouds and snow showers occuring as the lake effect machine is turned on. This is the coldest and really the first shot of cold air of the winter season. The pattern change process is allowing this cold shot to move it. We will see below normal temperatures Monday and Tuesday for the first time since the end of November. The streak went 34 consecutive days with above normal temperatures which is one of the longest streaks of uninterrupted above normal streaks since the summer.
During Monday it will be a windy day with temperatures settling in the upper 20s and lower 30s all day and Monday night into Tuesday morning will be the coldest period. Lows Tuesday morning will be in the teens and single digits and Tuesday’s highs will be in the 20s to around 30.
Tuesday night could be a radiational cooling night depending on clouds and wind. Teens are likely in most of the cold areas. Temperatures Wednesday should recover well into the 30s in many areas as high pressure moves overhead and to the east.
Thursday and Friday we should be in the 40s as we set up for more changes and precipitation threats for the weekend. There continues to be much model confusion over the storm signals that the models have been giving. More on this on the latest Joestradamus video.
