New Years Eve Looks Good, Colder Air Coming
New Year’s Eve will be about as quiet as can be for the arrival of 2016. We have a front offshore today and a wave moving along it that will produce some rain. Satellite pictures and radar show moisture coming up from the south. The western edge will pass close to New Jersey and Long Island late this afternoon and the first part of tonight. Rain could get to as far north as Northwest New Jersey and into Connecticut. This is a little further north than shown yesterday. The wave of low pressure goes by after midnight and we should see improving weather conditions on Thursday with clouds and some sunshine. No weather issues at all for New Years Eve other than clouds. No weather related travel issues either.
Temperatures today will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Then from here on in we will see a step down in temperatures day by day. Thursday’s highs will be in the mid to upper 40s. For New Years Eve at midnight it will probably be no worse than mid to upper 30s. Friday we will see sunshine with highs in the low to mid 40s. The downtrend in temperatures continues over the weekend with highs just in the upper 30s to lower 40s Saturday & Sunday. Monday into Tuesday we will see the coldest shot yet move in and this could take temperatures to 30s by day and low to mid 20s at night…possibly even colder on Monday with highs just into the 30s.
