Black Ice Issues Possible NW New Jersey, Hudson Valley NY
Now that the weather system from last night is gone inland spots in Northern New Jersey and in the Hudson Valley in New York might see some slick spots and black ice. Black ice is always tricky to forecast and it will depend on whether skies partially clear tonight and winds drop to calm.
Both conditions are possible toight so we will keep an eye on things. Just be cautious overnight in these areas in case it happens. Some patchy fog is possible too so if driving, exercise caution.
On Wednesday it should be mild however there will be lots of clouds as low pressure develops offshore and heads to the northeast. A spot shower is possible but other than that it should be dry as low pressure moves far enough offshore, taking the bulk of the rain with it. Then it looks like the weather will be relatively calm and quiet New Years and New Years Day. However temperatures will be trending down as we head into 2016. Nothing extreme is forecast. We expect temperatures to trend toward normal early January levels over the weekend with highs in the upper 30s to near 40 by day and lows in the 20s to near 30 at night. No storms are on the horizon right into the beginning of next week.
Longer term there are some indications that the next weather system to impact the northeast will occur sometime around the middle or end of next week. The overall pattern continues to indicate a breakdown of the pattern of record warmth that we have been in since the middle of October. This could make things much more wintry as we begin to move through the month of January.
