Fall Foliage Peak Along The Coast

Fall Foliage Peak Along The Coast

One big positive about the beautiful weather of today and Wedneday is that the fall foliage along the coast and just inland is reaching peak and it is just spectacular especially if you have temperatures reaching 70 degrees and and almost cloudless sky. This is exactly what we have for the rest of today and Wednesday as high pressure moves right overhead and sits overhead for a little while. Another high builds in from Southeast Canada overnight and Wednesday which only re-enforce the dry air so it looks good. Nights will be clear and cool with lows in the 40s to low 50s in urban areas. So far so good.

Once we get into Thursday 2 things are going to happen. There is residual moisture that is being left along the Carolinas and it will begin to move northward on Thursday. This is likely to put us in some cloud cover though temperatures will remain warm right through Friday. A small area of light rain or drizzle will probably move through some areas later Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. In reality it is a bit of warm front that is setting up ahead of the next cold front that arrives Friday night. Temperatures Thursday will likely be a little lower due to cloud cover, 60s to near 70-ish.

As that front approaches we will see more of southwest flow on Friday which should put us back into a mix of sun and clouds. Friday’s highs will be in the 70s and it is possible that they could be near record highs in some areas before the front passes. That front is likely to come through dry as all the energy from it shifts north and northeast. Following the front the weekend will be much cooler but it will feature sunshine and temperatures in the 50s for daytime highs or pretty much back to normal.

Longer term it looks like there will be a storm heading for the Great Lakes for the middle of next week which might push a stronger front with some rain or showers here along about next Wednesday. Other than that the pattern continues to be warm with above normal tempertures and below normal precip. I will post about the long range later today.
