Hurricane Matthew Post Tropical Transition

Hurricane Matthew Post Tropical Transition

Hurricane Matthew Post Tropical Transition

Hurricane Matthew began the process of making a transition to a post tropical system last nigt as the wind field and rain shield expanded westward while the southern side became rather void of convection. Rain is spreading northward up the coast and is getting enhanced on the northern end by a cold front moving across Western NY and Western Pennsylvania.storm free

Meanwhile Tropical Storm Nicole which fooled forecasters once and strengthened to a category 2 hurricane before being sheared apart last night and this morning. It appears that with Matthew becoming post tropical, Nicole’s upper air environment has improved considerably and it appears to be strengthening again.  as thunderstorms developed this afternoon around the center. It also appears to be moving southward.

We will see if these thunderstorms hold or if they wind up getting blown apart again in a few hours. It is such a challenge trying to judge the intensity nature of these tropical systems.

Back home radars are getting busy with rain but there isn’t much at all across Northeast Pennsylvania, Northwest New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and Interior Northern Connecticut. Some heavier rain bands seem to be coming into parts of Central and Southern New Jersey. The front coming will gradually shift the rain area to the east as we move through tonight and into Sunday morning.

The substantial rains from Hurricane Matthew won’t make it much further north than Southern Delaware as the front pushes everything to the east. I think we should see some slow improvement on Sunday with clouds in the morning and maybe still some leftover rain at the coast going to a mix of sun and clouds during the afternoon. Fingers crossed on this. Temperatures Sunday will be in the 60s.

Monday Columbus Day looks nice and sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 60s. The week ahead looks dry right through Friday.
