Hurricane Maria Continues Northward March

Offshore North Carolina

Tropical Storm Warnings Extended Northward to Va Border

There have been no important changes in Maria today as the hurricane continues to hold on with 80 mph winds. Some thunderstorms have developed again near the center of circulation. Maria may be reacting to the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream which are near by. Even if Maria strengthens a little due to this it does not change the outcome for the Carolinas. No landfall is forecast though tropical storm conditions are likely for the Outer Banks where we have tropical storm warnings up. Some bands of rain have been coming inland from the southeast as the radar below indicates but the core of the hurricane remains and will remain offshore.
