Hot Weather Week Ahead Summer Weather In Full Force

The next 3 weeks are the hottest part of the summer when you look at the averages over the long term. We seem to be in a weather pattern at least for this week that is living up to form. At least today we get a break from 90 degree highs and humidity as we are enjoying a nice dry shot of air that covers the northeast to day. The satellite picture this morning show nothing more than some passing clouds. We will see sunshine for today with reasonable humidity for the most part and highs mostly in the 80s. No showers or thunderstorms will develop today under these relatively stable atmospheric conditions.

Tonight look for mainly clear skies with most lows in the 60s to near 80. Then starting on Tuesday we are going to see temperatures head higher. Humidity levels will start to rise as well. We will see sunshine with highs reaching the upper 80s to some lower 90s. We may also see some isolated showers or thunderstorms pop up mostly across Pennsylvania southward into the Delmarva Peninsula. Areas to the north and east of there are not completely out of risk for isolated late day thunderstorms but the risk is going to be lower.

Wednesday will be a hot and humid day for sure and might be the hottest day of the summer so far with highs likely to reach the low and middle 90s. There is a solid chance for late day thunderstorms on Wednesday as an upper air trough moves through. This is going to be another one of those disturbances in the flow where the air behind it is about as warm as the air ahead of it. We don’t see much of a break in the humidity going forward. Highs will continue to reach into the low and middle 90s Thursday Friday and into the weekend. Chances for thunderstorms will be lower on Thursday and Friday.

Saturday could turn out to be a particularly brutal day heat and humidity wise with highs reaching the mid to upper 90s with out of control dew points in the 70s Im not seeing much in the way of relief other than scattered thunderstorms that could pop up here and there. We may have to wait until early next week for a more significant cold front to put and end to all this heat and humidity. Im an advocate of defining heatwaves as temperatures in the 90s for at least 5 consecutive days and not the low bar 3 day rule. This stretch of weather we are in certainly fits the mold. After today, it is hot humid weather until further notice.
