Heavy Rains About to End, All Time Record Highs Christmas Eve
Heavy rains today have been substanital and widespread. 1 to 2 inches of rain fell in many areas added to yesterday’s rain and we are beginning to make gradual inroads into the drought. This the fourth rain event in the last 10 days and that is a distinct change in the dry pattern. It is a very good sign longer term that the pattern will now begin to shift to a wetter look as we move into January.
We are coming to the end of the rainfall over the next several hours. The heavy rains are shifting northeastward. Temperatures are in the warm low 60s right now in many locations which sets up for record highs and possibly all time highs on Christmas Eve with many area highs in the 70s.
Radar still has some showers and thunderstorms to work through in some areas and there are still some locally heavy rains possible. All of this will move out in time for Thursday which should be dry for much of the day unless we get a spot shower in one or two places.
Friday Christmas Day will be cooler but still warm by December standards. After midnight Thursday night we should still be in the lower 60s which could set records for Friday. Friday looks dry with some sunshine. Saturday a wave going by to our west could bring some more rain with highs in the 50s. Then Sunday will be another warm day with some sunshine and the chance for record highs in the 60s before a cold front finally cools it down for Monday and Tuesday. Cold arctic air is going to be pressing southward from Canada Monday and Tuesday and models are showing the possibility of some snow and ice for some areas in the interior northeast. We will update you on this as models begin to arrive tonight and on Thursday.
