Heavy Rain Gusty Winds Moving Northward
Radar and satellite loops below show a fast moving area of heavy rains moving north. The storm responsible for all this is moving northeastward and will pass offshore. The storm passes far enough offshore to spare us any big problems but for Coastal New Jersey and Long Island, look for some brief heavy rains overnight into Saturday morning. If some convection in the bands of rain hold together there could be a brief period of strong gusty winds as well. Overall though this storm will not be a huge deal for most areas.

One other thing to consider are the temperatures inland especially in elevated areas. There is cold air aloft that will be working in and it is possible in parts of Northwest New Jersey and parts of the Hudson Valley the rain could mix with or even briefly change to wet snow and sleet. I don’t think it will be a big deal if it occurs and at most a coating to an inch or so is possible in those elevated areas.
Once the heavy rain gusty winds and any wet snow is done weather conditions will improve on Saturday with some sunshine with highs in the 40s. Colder air begins to arrive on Sunday. Sunday night an upper air disturbance could produce a burst of snow showers that could whiten the ground up in spots or perhaps a bit more. Another storm is forecast to pass offshore but we will watch if the models shift this a little further west. This might mean some precip for coastal areas late Sunday or Sunday night but that still remains a long shot.
