HEATWAVE INTO DAY 5 BUT A BREAK COMING FRIDAY..HOLIDAY WEEKEND FORECAST

With the nights getting longer and longer we wake up to patchy dense fog over parts of the area but once that burns off it is back to sunshine and hot temperatures. The heatwave carries into the 5th day of 90 plus temperatures for most of the area and hardly a drop of rain has fallen through this stretch. We do have relief from the heatwave coming however with a cold front dropping down from upstate New York. This front won’t move through until later tonight so I don’t think we will see any thunderstorms until after dark or possibly after midnight.

thursdayTomrrow is a bit of a forecast problem in that the front does get hung up for a little bit. High pressure to the north doesn’t immediately build southward. Eventually it does but in the meantime it does allow for some showers to develop for Eastern and South Central Pennsylvania during the day Friday..while clouds will linger over northern areas. gfs36 gfs42

It isn’t until late Friday and Friday night that the high finally begins to move southward. Saturday looks terrific with lots of sunshine..highs in the lower 80s with low humidity. gfs48Beyond Saturday it is the same old story with us being in a ridge position here in the east. Look for sunshine both Sunday and Monday. It will begin to slowly turn more humid, perhaps not so much for Sunday but for Monday and Tuesday certainly. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s Sunday and then back into the upper 80s and lower 90s for Monday and Tuesday. The real break in this pattern will probably come later next week when a cold front approaches and moves through with a genuine shot of cooler air. It should begin the process of breaking down the pattern of the ridge in the east.  We may string together another 4 day heatwave the front goes by.gfs72
