Heatwave Day 1 or 2

Heatwave Day 1 or 2 (Depends on Location)
Depending on where you are this is either day 1 or day 2 of this current heat wave. Since we measure heatwaves by consecutive days over 90, for Some places in New Jersey & the Hudson Valley (up near route 84) this will be day 2. For other areas it will be day 1 since it did not hit 90 yesterday. Today and Saturday everyone will hit the 90s. On Saturday some places will get close to 100.
On the satellite loop we see what will be an approaching weather front for tonight. I hesitate to call it a cold front since the air behind it is a little drier but it is also almost as warm as the air ahead of it. With a downsloping (Northwest) wind on Saturday, the humidity will actually go down a few notches and the temperatures will go up higher as the air is super heated.
Radars are not terribly busy at the moment but look for thunderstorms to pop up later this afternoon and evening. It appears there may be two separate areas to deal with. One will come through between 5pm and 8pm over Northern New Jersey and New York City. The second will come through between 11pm and 2am over Central and Eastern Connecticut and over the Eastern half of Long Island.
The risk for severe weather appears marginal according to the Storm Prediction Center. Here is the NAM Model view of the two areas.

Saturday Outlook
Northwest winds will be at play Saturday as we stated earlier so we heat up to the mid to upper 90s with the odd 100 degree reading possible. Sunday temperatures will be a shade lower but still in the 90s in most places.
Heatwave Sunday Forecast Highs
As far as Monday goes there are questions regarding temperatures. Earlier model runs had highs well into the 90s to near 100 but have since backed off due to clouds and another cold front. This might keep temperatures lower than earlier forecast. Some model guidance keeps temperatures below 90 in most places so we will have to see whether this winds up breaking the streak at 4 days for some and 3 for others. No thunderstorms are forecast for either Saturday or Sunday.
