Heating and Cooling, Weekend Cooldown

Heating and Cooling, Weekend Cooldown

We seem to be in a process of heating and cooling with temperatures warming up for a few days and then cooling down for a few and then warming up for a few but it seems the upside is getting a little lower and the bottom side is also getting a little lower. No extremes in either direction. Just some normal heating and cooling in the atmospheric pattern for the next week or so.

Yesterday’s and last night’s rainfall took some time to get going but we did manage to squeeze out some decent rainfall amounts averaging .75 inch to 1.25 inches in a few places. Long Island took longer to get into the rain but a little last minute radar enhancement did the trick. Now weather conditions are improving today with sunshine. The satellite loop shows the cold front offshore and now we wait for a second wave and a second cold front to come through on Sunday morning. We will be cooling down to near normal ahead of it and a little below normal behind the second front but the air mass coming down for Sunday into Tuesday is not especially cold. Temperatures today will be in the 50s and then we should drop into the 30s tonight with below freezing temperatures in the cooler spots away from urban areas. Saturday looks like a good day. There may be some clouds in the morning early but some sun should rule much of the day before more clouds arrive during the afternoon and evening.

Models bring the next cold front through and while the GFS has very little moisture with it, the Nam weather forecast model has the front getting enhanced near the coast and has rain over Long Island for Sunday morning. I’m just going to continue on the idea that for all areas there could be a shower with the front and maybe a snow shower or two behind it on Sunday.  Temperatures Saturday night will probably hold in the 40s to near 50 and then after Sunday morning temperatures will fall through the 40s and down in the upper 20s to middle 30s Monday morning. Monday looks to be cold with some sunshine with highs generally in the lower 40s in most places.

Longer range look for the next high to build offshore east of New England much like this one did but there doesn’t appear to be any major threat for any rain here at least through Thanksgiving day and possibly the entire week.
