Heat Humidity Scattered Thunderstorms Late Today

Unlike yesterday where we had a pretty healthy combination of tropical air, an unstable atmosphere, and an upper air disturbance which gave birth to extensive downpours and thunderstorms, today the risk is much less. It looks like yesterday’s thunderstorms have zapped some of the moisture out of the air and we don’t have as strong a trough swinging through today. The Storm Prediction Center has the area at a marginal risk for severe weather today. The main threat would be flash flooding after the 2 to 4 inches of rain some places saw yesterday particularly in Northern New Jersey.

HEAT HUMIDITY

There should be enough going on to produce some scattered thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening but much of the area from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England won’t see much and the immediate coast probably won’t see any at all.

With the increased amount of sunshine today and the satellite loop this morning shows we should enjoy this into the afternoon, temperatures will probably reach the mid 80s to near 90 degrees in most areas.

Radars this morning are quiet and should remain so until early this afternoon when the first pop up thunderstorms should begin to appear. Once we get through the evening hours whatever is around will disappear and Friday will bring very warm and humid conditions again ahead of a cold front. The main activity with that front should be Friday night into early Saturday morning but it does not appear to be impressive. Once that front goes by Saturday morning, lower humidity will arrive by afternoon and we should see some sunshine. Sunday will be a really nice day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
