Hanukkah Christmas Calm Slightly Above Average Temperatures No Storms All Week

We have enjoyed a nice Sunday of sunshine. Hanukkah begins tonight and we have no weather issues at all. We topped out in the 40s today area wide and we will be headed higher on Monday. The satellite picture this evening shows mainly clear skies. There are some high clouds to the south from a storm moving from the Northeast Gulf and redeveloping off the Southeast Coast of the US on Monday. This will have no impact on our weather going forward as its destiny is to move east rather than northeast or north. Temperatures tonight should hold up with most lows in the mid to upper 20s inland and in cold spots and low to mid 30s in warmer urban locations. There is nothing much to speak of on the regional radar and absolutely nothing going on when we look at local radars.

Monday put us in a west to northwest flow ahead of a very weak cold front. We should have a fair amount of sunshine for Monday and this will be the warmest day of the current stretch of calm. Highs will be reaching into the 50s in many locations. The warmer air actually makes it rather far north into upstate NY and into New England.

The cold front goes by Monday night with little fanfare. High pressure builds southward from Southeastern Canada giving us some sunshine and clouds coupled with a northeast wind. That will knock temperatures down a bit for Christmas Eve but it will still be on the mild side of average. Highs will be in the 40s in most places.

Christmas Day brings another weak front southeast from Eastern Canada which will keep temperatures in check but again the coldest air stays mainly north of the border and we see a day of some sunshine and clouds with highs in the 40s.

Our calm weather continues through Friday with no important changes. However over next weekend we will start to see the weather pattern exit its relative calmness and enter a period of more activity. It will likely begin with a low from the Plains that heads to the Great Lakes bringing showers here over the weekend at some point and a colder air mass to follow for the last days

The low that develops and heads to the Saint Lawrence Valley and beyond likely triggers off the next round of weather pattern shifting across North America. Where this all winds up remains to be seen. Since there isn’t much point in speculating on these developments, we think this is a wonderful opportunity for folks to step away from the day to day weather watching and enjoy the festivities of the holidays. Be sure you do the same. Updates continue to remain reduced to 1 a day until Christmas and then we may offer a long range Christmas present.
