Hanging On To Sunshine For Awhile Longer Severe Weather Risks South

We seem to be doing a good job so far of hanging on to sunshine and that is making for a nice day for much of the Northeast. That being said there are some cloud issues in Southern New Jersey west across Southern Pennsylvania and Maryland and this is where we are setting for the a chance of some scattered thunderstorms late today and overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has designated areas from Southern New Jersey west into Southern Pennsylvania and south into Maryland and Virginia at risk for severe weather. Low pressure is headed our way from the Great Lakes and it will be moving southeastward tonight and then offshore Long Island on Wedneday.

Radars are beginning to pick up on showers and possibly some thunderstorms in Southwestern Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia  back into Ohio. These showers are moving southeastward which means areas to the northwest of this area are likely to be dry into this evening. Temperatures this afternoon are in the 60s except 50s right along the immediate coast. We should hold these levels for the rest of the day.

Tonight we will watch low pressure approach from Michigan and move southeastward to our coastline. Some showers are likely with this low overnight and in the areas south and west of the low track, the risk of thunderstorms and severe weather will continue overnight.

The NAM model does form a rather decent looking line of thunderstorms tonight that move southeast across Pennsylvania and then fall apart as the reach the coast Wednesday morning. Wednesday is a tricky day because of where the low winds up. North and east of NYC it is likely to be a rather cloudy day with weather conditions very slow to improve if at all thanks to a northeast wind. Highs here will range from the 40s in Southeastern New England to 50S Long Island and Connecticut and low 60s in and around NYC, Northern New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley.

Meanwhile head southwest toward Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey west and south and we are talking about highs reaching the low and middle 70s with sunshine on Wednesday. There is no rest for the weary on Thursday as another cold front heads our way and there could be some showers and even a thunderstorm or two Thursday as the front goes by.

Behind the front very chilly air will be moving in for Friday and the weekend. While temperatures on Thursday will be in the 60s to near 70 for highs, Friday will be much colder with highs just into the 50s. Gusty northwest winds will make it feel even colder.

Sky wise Friday looks  to be in and out sun and clouds. I’m going to leave the risk of passing rain shower in the forecast and well inland a snow shower can’t be ruled out. Then it is on to Easter Weekend which looks to be dry for both Saturday and Sunday. Sunshine and chilly conditions are forecast for Saturday with highs mostly in the 50s. Sunday look for arriving and thickening clouds. Low pressure will be moving up the East Coast with rain for Sunday night and Monday. With some luck the rain should hold off until late Sunday or Sunday night keeping much of Easter Sunday dry.
