Gusty Winds Warm Temperatures
We are seeing a rather strong southwest flow getting established today across the region and this is going to allow temperatures to rise this afternoon into the 70s away from the ocean. However even in coastal areas which struggled yesterday in the 40s should make it into the 60s before any kind of ocean cooling takes hold. The southwest wind has less of an ocean trajectory as opposed to the south wind which is straight off the water. Inland however temperatures this afternoon will reach 70 or better. The winds will be rather gusty from the southwest especially along the coast and points east across Southern New England.

Satellite loop this morning shows clouds and a weather system to our west which is the next cold front. This will begin to approach tonight with some showers developing probably around or after midight in most areas. If you look on the loop you will see another system dropping down into the Northern Plains. There is a lot of energy running around and it looks to me like we could see a stretched out period of on and off rain or showers into Saturday.

Regional radar to the north is picking up on the shower activity across Western Pennsylvania and upstate Western New York. The area is moving northeastward. Look for a slow shift to the east to develop as the day wears on but nothing in terms of showers will get here at least through the early evening hours.
Friday the front slowly makes its way through and then stalls out. Friday’s highs will be in the 60s everywhere. It looks like a wave develops on the front which brings some rain here on Saturday espeically along the coast but not much further inland than Northwest New Jersey or Southern areas of the Hudson Valley. I don’t believe the rain amounts to much. Colder air begins to arrive and highs will just be in the 50s.
Saturday night into Sunday morning a strong storm will develop just to our east. This is going to mean an increase in winds and they will get very strong and gusty. Gusts over 50 mph are not out of the question and for Central & South Jersey, especially along the coast, I think 60 mph wind gusts are even possible. Also there could be a burst of snow with the arrival of the cold air in northern areas that might leave a coating to an inch in some heavier bursts. Temperatures by Sunday morning will be in the 20s to lower 30s.
