Great Plains Storm Revs Up Nice Weather Continues Here

The way things work in the world of weather is when it is stormy in the West it is usuallhy nice in the East and that is exactly what we are seeing today. A huge storm is taking shape over the Great Plains. Blizzard Warnings are up from Eastern Colorado to Western Nebraska and parts of South Dakota. We also flood watches northeastward to cover all of Minnesota. Rain is coming after 8 weeks of record snows and bitter cold making flooding a likelihood. While all that goes on you can see on the US satellite loop below that skies are clear and high clouds are well to the west of us. We will see plenty of sunshine today. It will be a bit on the breezy side at times. Temperatures will top out in the low to mid 40s.

On the regional radar you can see some snow showers going on in Upstate NY thanks to a bit of lake effect action but none of those snow showers will make it here and our local radars are silent.

We continue to see no serious weather issues here through the daytime Thursday. Skies will be clear tonight and it will be cold with lows in the upper teens in cold spots to the upper 20s  to near 30 in warmer urban locations. Wednesday look for sunshine though some high clouds will come in later in the day from west to east. Highs will reach the 40s to near 50 with the warmer temperatures as you head into Southern New Jersey and Southeast Pennsylvania. Clouds with some sun and highs in the 50s will be the story for Thursday. Then as a cold front from this Great Plains storm which by Thursday night will be moving across the Great Lakes as a weaker system, some showers move in late Thursday night into Friday.

With a little luck and assuming that the wind is not going to be onshore but more southwesterly we should make it into the 60s at least away from the ocean. Showers will end late Friday and we will clear out nicely for the weekend with no weather issues for Saturday’s Saint Patrick’s Day parade or for Sunday which actually is Saint Patrick’s Day. Some sunshine is forecast both days with highs into the 50s Saturday and just into the 40s on Sunday as colder air moves back into the Eastern US.
