Gloom Returns Showers Tonight Improves Saturday Rain Sunday

We are back in the onshore flow today after a nice break yesterday with the appearance of that yellow ball in the sky called the sun. Unfortunately as the surface map shows this morning the warm front came right back southward and now lies across the Delmarva Peninsula and sits across Central Pennsylvania. That has put us back in northeast and east winds, the satellite picture this morning shows us in lots of low clouds and temperatures that today are likely to go nowhere fast with highs generally in the low to mid 50s. We might see higher temperatures in South Jersey late today since the front is going to try to move northward. Unlike yesterday it won’t have a whole lot of success.

Radars are showing some showers around on the other side of the warm front and a wave of low pressure in upstate NY is producing a solid area of rain there. We might see a few showers or a downpour today. Otherwise it is a cloudy day with spotty light rain or drizzle.

Tonight brings the next cold front and we will some showers and possibly a thunderstorm though it isn’t certain that all areas get into this rain. The showers should be done before daybreak and that should lead to some improvement for Saturday. Of the two weekend days Saturday is definitely the better of the two and I think we should see some breaks of sunshine by Saturday afternoon with highs in the 60s to near 70. Unfortunately it goes downhill fast as low pressure heads our way. It looks like the rain takes a little longer to get here and arrives during the early morning hours on Sunday which means it lasts longer and rains for most of the day Sunday.

We have been thinking that this will be a one to two inch rain producer and we are still on that idea. We will also deal with a wind off the ocean for much of the area and that means that Sunday will be on the raw side with highs just in the 50s. Once the low moves out to the east late Sunday weather conditions start to improve and Monday is shaping up to be a nice day with sunshine and highs reaching the 70s in most places.

We might be able to squeeze out one more nice day on Tuesday before the Curse of the Onshore flow returns for later next week. We will address the long range outlook later today.
