Gloom Doom Wednesday Rain Thunderstorms Wednesday Night Colder Late Week Weekend

We spent the day in clouds and getting brushed by rain and that continues this evening in some areas but not all. Once the rains came temperatures settled in the 40s making for rather raw conditions. Clouds are still dominating the weather scene on the satellite picture this evening. Most of this first round of rain was on the light side. Now we sit back and wait until the second round of rain comes Wednesday night as a storm forms in the Appalachians on a cold front and runs northward into Upstate NY and New England Thursday morning.

REGIONAL RADAR

Regional radar shows the patchy nature of the rains across Pennsylvania east to Southern New England. There isn’t much happening further south into Maryland and Virginia and we expect that quietness to continue there while other areas north will see a few of these patchy bands of rain move through overnight.

Wednesday we will likely sit in clouds all day with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Rain will come in Wednesday night as low pressure moves northward. Some of the downpours will be heavy and there might even be a thunderstorm in the mix as the front pushes east and the low moves northward.

The rain will be gone by Thursday morning to be replaced by a drier and eventually colder northwest flow. However this will also trigger some significant lake effect snows in Western NY northeastward to the south and east sides of Lake Ontario.

Some areas on the lee side of the lakes will pick up a foot to a foot and a half of snow Thursday into Friday. Thursday will be a cold and windy day with some early sunshine followed by clouds with temperatures in the 40s. Then we have 3 very cold days from Friday through Sunday with some sunshine each day but temperatures will be stuck in the 30s by day and in the teens to mid 20s at night. No rain or snow is forecast from Thursday after daybreak right through Sunday.
