Gloom & Doom Weather Returns Showery Rains Into Thursday
More Rain Later Friday Into Saturday
We are back in the land of gloom & doom weather with showery rains, low clouds, and an onshore wind. This will be a bit of an upside down day temperature wise because clouds and rain will initially have a tough time moving north and east of NYC. The result as that temperatures will reach the upper 60s to near 70 as you head north and east into the Hudson Valley and Southern New England. There might even be a little sun there for awhile today before clouds take over. To the south where it is cloudy and raining, highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Showery rains on and off will continue overnight into Thursday. Gradually the winds at the surface will turn from east to south and then south southwest during Thursday. This will allow temperatures to warm up back into the upper 60s to middle 70s by afternoon. We will throw in the chance that there could be a thunderstorm or 2 in the mix later in the day Thursday into Thursday night.
As far as rain amounts are concerned, again there will be a bit of a wide range through early Friday morning. If you are north of New York City we are talking about a half inch or less spread out over the next 36 or so hours through 2am Friday. To the south in Southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania an inch to possibly an inch and a half will fall and that will vary depending on whether a thunderstorm or 2 gets involved.
The rain areas are due to a series of short waves moving across the Southern Plains and the Gulf States lifting northeastward up the East Coast. The first short wave is today into Thursday. The second comes later Friday into early Saturday and this will be coupled by a northern stream system that gets involved. Low pressure develops in Southern New Jersey and moves into New England Saturday.
We will likely see a dry period of weather late Thursday night through midday Friday before another round of rain moves in later in the afternoon and evening, lasting into Saturday morning. Mostly southwest winds Friday will take highs into the 70s. Rain will be heavy at times Friday night especially from Northern New Jersey and New York city north and east to Southern New England.
While the steady rains ends Saturday morning (probably early) we will still have an upper trough to deal with and that will set up for a round of showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. There is a chance there could be some isolated severe thunderstorms in the mix especially from New Jersey south. Temperatures Saturday will be in the 70s. Finally we will see some improvement and we will have a better weather day Sunday. Sunshine should return mixing with a few clouds and highs Sunday will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. If you are looking for drier and warmer weather it looks like we will be heading in that direction next week.
