Gloom & Doom Takes A Break Tuesday But Back It Comes Later Wednesday Through Friday

The word to describe the day is miserable. Even though rains were showery and spread out where some areas got it more than others (and some got little if any rain) the clouds were there pretty much all day long. Temperatures were in the upper 40s and lower 50s for much of the day. It was just a typical miserable April day.

We still have some work to do regarding showers this evening but they are scattered around so some places will see them and some won’t. They seem to be concentrated from NYC north and east in 2 bands. Some scattered showers are located to the west in parts of Central Pennsylvania. All of this should wind down overnight as an upper low moves to the east and weather conditions should start to improve toward morning. Most lows will be in the 40s.

Tuesday we get a break from the doom and gloom with sunshine returning for most of the area. Most highs should reach the lower 60s with the exception being south and east facing shorelines where it will likely stay in the 50s. Enjoy it because it all goes down hill from here.

Thanks to the blocking we have a bowling alley with upper lows moving through like bowling balls. They are forced southeast because the North Atlantic remains bottled up with nothing moving. So they take the path that is open to them. Unfortunately that puts us in line for miserable weather.

Weather conditions should start to deteriorate Wednesday with some sun to start but clouds increasing and some light rain likely develops late Wednesday inland and Wednesday night elsewhere. Temperatures Wednesday will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Then as the GFS and other models show, low pressure develops east of Virginia and then pivots northwestward under the slow moving upper air system. A cold rain takes over Thursday. Thursday night with the cold upper low moving over New Jersey, that will bring some cold air aloft down to the surface. Don’t be shocked if you hear about wet snow in the Catskills and maybe the Poconos in areas above 1500 feet. Wet snow could also fall in elevated areas northeast into Western New England! For everyone else it is a cold raw rain for Thursday night into early Friday. While the rain may wind down, clouds will still be around Friday. Highs at best both Thursday and Friday will be in the 40s. We should see improvement Saturday with some sun returning and we might be able to hold on for at least part of Sunday before clouds move in. Another chance for showers will probably come next Monday.
