Gloom & Doom Saturday Rain Possible Sunday As Cold Front Arrives

Gloom & Doom Saturday Rain Possible Sunday

As Cold Front Arrives

We begin the weekend in the land of gloom & doom thanks to an onshore flow of chilly air from the Atlantic and New England. A warm front lies to the south of us and we are watching clouds and an area of rain moving eastward. It won’t be raining all the time today or Sunday but some areas of rain are possible along with some patchy light rain or drizzle thanks to the ocean flow. Temperatures today will likely be in the chilly upper 40s and lower 50s from NYC, Northern New Jersey & the Hudson Valley northward and 50s to near 60 in areas across Southern New Jersey, Southern Pennsylvania and points southward where rain will be much less and there even may be some breaks of sun in the mix.

The warm front will start moving northward tonight as a cold front pushes in from the northwest. The warm front is going to struggle northward and as the cold front presses in Sunday some rain is likely from time to time. The front should eventually push offshore Sunday night with drier and colder air forecast to arrive later Sunday night and Monday.

Give that the warm front will not push all the way north into New England, thunderstorm risk is very low and no severe weather is forecast for Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. Tonight we will see lots of clouds with spotty rain and drizzle and Sunday will be a cloudy on and off rainy type of day. Most highs Sunday will be in the 50s except a little lower northern areas and warmer 60s to the south.

Any rain should be mostly done by daybreak in most areas though it could linger for a short time near the coast. Then you can look forward to decreasing clouds from northwest to southeast during the afternoon. Perhaps we will see some developing sunshine. Gusty northwest winds will develop as a cold high from Canada begins to drop southward into the Eastern US. Monday highs will be in the 50s but the wind will be an issue and make it feel colder.

By Tuesday morning we will be in the 30s as skies clear and Tuesday dayside will be a day of a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures  Tuesday will only be in the upper 40s to lower 50s and Wednesday will be a very chilly April day with sunshine and a few clouds, Highs Wednesday will only be in the 40s at best after a cold morning down in the 20s to around 30s. Late in the week and into the weekend energy will be piling into the Eastern states and we could see increasing chances for rain along with the possibility of a coastal low developing Friday into next weekend.
