Clouds are beginning to increase from southwest to northeast and we will see those clouds thicken up tonight but rain will hold off until after midnight. It will gradually spread eastward during the early morning hours and it will be raining for the morning commute. It should rain steadily for most of the day and begin to taper off in the mid to late afternoon from west to east and in the early evening on Long Island. Weather models are forecasting between an inch and an inch and half and this seems pretty consistent with what we have been seeing for the last few days. Rivers and streams are high and the ground is still rather soaked so expect run off and the risk for flooding.

Temperatures tonight will rise from the 30s and reach the 50s on Friday. Once the rain moves out it will be nice for the weekend with some sunshine for Saturday and for Sunday. Saturday’s highs will be in the 50s with the leftover mild air and then it turns colder Saturday night into Sunday with morning lows Sunday in the 20s to near 30. Sunday’s highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

MORE RAIN FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE

flood watch

If your plan is to celebrate the New Year arrival Monday night outdoors get ready for more rain. Another low comes out of the Plains and heads into Western NY with a warm front coming up from the south. Rain will arrive New Year’s Eve late in the day Monday and it will rain Monday night into Tuesday morning New Year’s Day. Temperatures Monday will be in the 40s and then rise. We could see 60 on New Year’s Day before colder air arrives later next week.
