Flood Watch Coastal Flood Warning Storm Inching Northward

Flood Watch Coastal Flood Warning Storm Inching Northward

We are watching low pressure moving slowly northward up the East Coast and we do have some issues developing from this. A Flood Watch has been posted for much of New Jersey (except North of Route 80) and Southeastern Pennsylvania. We are also dealing with a full moon and the arrival of spring so tides are very high to begin with. Coastal Flood Warnings are up for Monmouth & Middlesex Counties of New Jersey for tides up to 2 feet above normal. Other areas are under Coastal flood advisories from Long Island to South Jersey for minor impacts from tidal flooding.

Back to the Flood Watch due to heavy rain and we will see some heavy rain coming up from the south. Look for up to 2 inches or more of rain. In fact rainfall forecast amounts have increased from NYC & Coastal New Jersey west but amounts have decreased a bit to the east. The heaviest rain will be north and west of the low track.

Once this storm system moves up into New England it will intensify into a major storm. This means get ready for the wind to crank up later Friday and Friday night. Friday we will see some breaks of sun at the start but clouds will rapidly develop. There is a strong upper air disturbance that will move through and produce some showers in the mid afternoon to early evening. Temperatures will be in the 50s and then the winds will start to howl Friday night and Saturday with sustained winds from the northwest at 20 to 35 mph with gusts into the 40s. The winds will remain strong through Saturday with some sunshine and highs in the 50s.

We do have another weather system approaching on Monday with clouds arriving and some showers late in the day. Highs will reach the 60s before colder air comes in behind it for Tuesday. We will look at this system a bit closer later today.
