Satellite and radars this morning show a strong cold front approaching the area from the west. The radar is loaded this morning with a large area of moderate to heavy rain and there will even be some embedded thunderstorms with this later this afternoon and evening as it approaches the coast. Flood risks Central NJ SE Pennsylvania continue due to the ground being swollen by a 3 foot snow melt over the last 10 days plus another 1 to 2 inches of rain.

In other areas where snow amounts were a bit less, 1 to 2 inches of rain might certainly cause some flooding of the usual vulnerable spots but it may not get beyond that. Make sure your storm drains are clear of any snow cover to avoid unnecessary flood risks.

Now once the front passes offshore during the is evening the rain will gradually taper off and end later tonight. However it looks like the front will get hung up along the coast and another wave will develop on it. That wave will through back a little bit of moisture Thursday night to the coast and it could be cold enough for some wet snow. In fact I’m thinking there could be a cheap thrill coating to an inch possible for coastal New Jersey, Central & Eastern Long Island and much of Central and eastern Coastal Connecticut. It may just be cold enough though I would think anything that sticks will probably be on colder surfaces and not on any roads. Again all I am talking about here is a coating to an inch or so at worst, unless the wave backs further west for some reason.
