Flash Flood Watch Expanded Across Most of New Jersey

Flash Flood Watch has been expanded to cover most of New Jersey with the exceptions being the northeastern and southeastern counties. It remains in effect for all of the Eastern 2/3rds of Pennsylvania as well as the Catskills. Im thinking that eventually the Flash Flood Watch will be expanded further for the remaining counties in New Jersey as well as the Hudson Valley and perhaps into Western Connecticut. Rainfall today in much of Eastern Pennsylvania has been excessive and numerous flood warnings and flash flood warnings have already been issued.

Rainfall amounts in parts of Pennsylvania have approached 6 inches in some placea and we can certainly see at least 1 to 2 inches across New Jersey & Southern New England with locally higher amounts possible. The ground is saturated in some places inland so it won’t take much to cause some flooding issues on Wednesday.

EASTERN SATELLITE

storm free

We have a rather interesting satellite loop this evening where you can see the edge of the upper high has pushed to along the immediate coast line while the stream of tropical moisture continues to surge north northwestward from the Carolinas to Pennsylvania. This area will shift eastward on Wednesday as the system to the west finally gets kicked to the coast.

REGIONAL RADAR

storm free

On the local radars this evening there isn’t much happening with a few widely scattered downpours in some areas in Northwest New Jersey. On the regional radar keep an eye on the heavy rain that is over Southeastern Virginia and Eastern North Carolina as that area makes its way northward tonight.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Hopefully everything moves along according to plan which would mean that Thursday we will see clouds and some sun and still the risk for some downpours with highs in the 80s. Friday we could see more sun than clouds though there is still the risk for downpours and thunderstorms with highs in the 80s to near 90. The same will hold for Saturday. Sunday there is a chance we could see a push of slightly drier air so that we have more sun, fewer clouds, and no downpours to worry about if only for a day. The humidity and showers come back again next week.

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
