Early Call Snow Forecast Saturday Nice Sunny Wednesday Before Cold Air Arrives

Finally we seem to get a rather uncomplicated day to enjoy. Skies cleared out overnight and we have plenty of sunshine around the area at least for the first half of the day. The satellite picture shows an open hole of clear skies from Southeast New England down to Maryland. Some clouds are still being a bit stubborn from southernmost New Jersey southward but hey should at least try and get out of the way later today. Highs today will reach into the nice comfortable 50s.

REGIONAL RADAR

Regional radar has gone quiet for now but we do have low pressure moving across the Great Lakes with a trailing cold front. That might bring in a few showers scattered around tonight but most of the area won’t see anything. Acorss Northern New England there will be a several to 6 inch snowfall from this. That low strengthens offshore on Thursday.

The pressure gradient tightens up and we will have a windy colder Thursday with temperatures in the 40s but the highs will likely be leftover from the early morning hours and we will settle in the low to mid 40s for most of the day. Winds will be 20 to 30 mph from the northwest with some gusts to 40 mph. Then it is on to the 20s by Friday morning. Friday we will see a good deal of sunshine, less wind and highs just barely back into the 30s in most places.

Friday night will be mainly clear though some clouds will probably start to arrive before daybreak. It will be a very cold night with lows mostly in the teens to near 20.

With all this cold air you would think this could be a substantial snow fall however the low is tracking across the Great Lakes and we will have a rather wrapped up primary low with minimal redevelopment until the low is up in New England somewhere. This basically makes it a cold front with some snow ahead of it that changes to rain.

I tried this yesterday overlaying my forecast on top of the Weather Prediction centers chance for at least 2 inches and it seem to work so this is my current view and I will probably stick to this until Friday when I can get a gauge of how cold it will be for how long on Saturday. It is hard to see from overnight model runs how this has much upside to it. If you can slow the timing of the change over by an hour or two you could wind up with an extra inch or two.

Snow comes in Saturday morning across Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey and then changes to sleet and rain after that. It reaches NYC around noon or 1pm and then it changes over to sleet and rain and it is all done from late evening across Eastern Pennsylvania. and before midnight along the coast. Weather conditions will improve on Sunday with sunshine, gusty winds and highs just into the 30s. Cold air will be with us for next week as a colder weather pattern takes hold.
