Dry Start to the Week Scattered Shower Chances Wednesday

We start off the work week with another day of sunshine and another day of temperatures on the warm side. Dew points have remained subdued for quite awhile now and at least if it is going to be warm, let the humidity levels remain low. Since August 20th we have only had a couple of days were we have seen any kind of shower or thunderstorm activity. It has also been a stretch of weather where much of the time temperatures have been near or below average for this time of year. Today will be no worse than partly sunny and high temperatures will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s with a wind off the ocean. Temperatures will be a little lower along south and east facing shorelines.

Most lows tonight will be in the 50s except perhaps lower 60s in warmer urban locations. Tuesday we will probably start to see some cloud cover moving up from the south and this will likely hold temperatures back somewhat. Skies should be partly sunny on average. Temperatures Tuesday will be a little lower than today with most highs concentrated in the middle 70s except perhaps a little lower along coastal locations.

Low pressure is off the coast of North Carolina and we do have rain going on in Eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks. The rain area will spread into Southeast Virginia and to the Delmarva Peninsula. This low is going to rotate erratically but with a northward bias over the next 2 days. It will also be weakening somewhat. However the clouds from this will be arriving Tuesday and then we might see a few bands of showers sneaking far enough northward Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The system will be weakening as it heads north and then turns northeast offshore later Wednesday into Thursday. This means that the shower activity won’t be impressive and while some areas could see some patchy showers, the rain will not amount to much. Most places will probably see less than a tenth of an inch. Wednesday otherwise will be mainly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70s.

Clouds are likely to linger into Thursday before weather conditions improve as the day wears on. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s. We should finish the work week with no worse than partly sunny skies. Friday highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. The weekend at the moment is looking to be nice and on the dry side as the summer ends and the autumn season officially arrives. That will happen next Monday September 22.
