Onshore Winds & Clouds Dominate

Some Rain This Morning Diminishes

A wind shift and a front pushing southward is all it takes to shake up the temperatures a bit. Today will be a different sort of day around here with dew points down to the lower 60s and temperatures that will struggle today in the low to mid 70s for most. We have a lot of clouds on the satellite loop this morning as the frontal boundary remains relatively close by.

REGIONAL RADAR

We are seeing some rain on the radar this morning just north of the frontal boundary. The band lies east west across parts of Central NJ just north of route 195 and gets patchy to the east over parts of Long Island. As the morning wears on this rain area should diminish.

There is some dry air to the north in upstate NY & New England and some of that dry air could funnel southward and reach areas from NY & Northern NJ north and east while areas to the south in New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania are likely to sit in clouds all day. Northeast winds will occasionally pick up and gust in the 20 to 25 mph range along the coast giving you the hint of fall in the air.

Cooler Onshore Winds

We are still on course for a some beautiful air for the end of this new week. First off though we have the next few days. The onshore flow will dominate into Tuesday which means clouds and temperatures in the 70s to at most 80. Tuesday more clouds will arrive with today’s front coming back as a warm front and a cold front swinging in from the west. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Cooler Onshore Winds

The dew point map above shows what is coming and that is a nice large dry Canadian air mass that arrives later Wednesday and brings very low humidity and sunshine for a large chunk of the Eastern US. In fact the dry air actually makes it unusually far south into the Gulf States late this week. Temperatures in the 70s to near 80 by day and nights in the 50s to lower 60s will be most welcomed around here for sure. Thursday and Friday will be the two best days we’ve had since early July which was the last time dew points in the 40s paid a visit to us.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
