Cooler Air Moving South Next 3 Days

The heatwave of the last 3 days which saw temperatures around New York City and Northeastern New Jersey peak around the century mark is over. Newark New Jersey hit 99 degrees setting a new record high and LaGuardia Airport hit 101 degrees though I think that number is biased by the huge construction going on there and the heavy traffic. Most of the region from Southeastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England topped in the low to middle 90s. Now we have a new air mass building down from Southeastern Canada and temperatures to day will be 15 to 20 degrees lower in many locations with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s on average through it will be a bit warmer in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.

High pressure building southward to the New England coast will create conditions where we will see cooler air moving south into Friday. Temperatures on Thursday may be even lower with most highs from the upper 60s near the coast to the middle 70s inland. Both Wednesday and Thursday will feature sunshine though there will be some leftover clouds to chew through in some areas Wednesday morning.

Today’s cold front becomes tomrrows’s warm front and this will bring clouds and the chance for showers beginning Friday. Over the weekend we are going to see chances for showers and thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday as it becomes warmer and more humid but we will not return to the 90s again for awhile. It doesn’t rain all weekend and there should be dry stretches. Father’s Day won’t be picture perfect but we will make do with some dry time and the risk for showers and thunderstorms.
