Colder Windy Weather Into Early Friday

Chance for Snow Saturday Night Into Sunday Morning

The wind machine is back on today and cold air has returned. Satellite loops show a strengthening storm system to the east and the associated upper trough to the west. Between the two we have a tight pressure gradient and winds will be gusting over 30 mph at times today. We will see some sunshine but we will also see some clouds around. A snow shower or two inland is possible as bands of snow continue to come in off the Great Lakes. Temperatures today will not get out of the 30s so the wind will make it feel like it is at least 10 degrees colder.

It will still be on the breezy side tonight as skies at least partially clear. Morning lows Friday will be in the upper teens to mid 20s. The wind will keep temperatures mostly in a tight range. Winds will start to ease Friday and we will see more in the way of sunshine. Disturbances weakening to our south might through some clouds in the mix. Highs Friday will be in the cold low to mid 30s.

We continue to see a series of fast moving systems from the Plains to the Mid Atlantic. Saturday we see the last of the series move eastward across the Ohio Valley with an area of snow. This is associated with a polar front that will ease through Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England later Saturday and set us up for a developing wave on the front for Saturday night into the first part of Sunday.

Ahead of this system, Saturday we will see sunshine giving way to arriving clouds. Most highs will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Saturday night some snow will develop. It could start out as a little rain along the coast but should turn to snow rather quickly as the atmosphere cools. This is not going to be a big system by any means. The most bullish of weather models is suggesting a 1-3/2-4 inch snowfall. The higher amounts are likely to be as you head south & east through Long Island, New Jersey, Delaware and Eastern Maryland and lesser amounts as you go north of New York City into the Hudson Valley and Northwest Connecticut.

While the developing wave will strengthen, it will do so far enough offshore to prevent any complications and snow should come to an end from northwest to southeast around midday. Temperatures Sunday are going to be cold. In fact they may actually be dropping while it is snowing and settling in the 20s during the afternoon. Very cold and windy conditions will be with us into Monday. Lows Sunday night will be in the teens and Monday highs with back into the 30s.
