Cold Weekend But Temperatures Rebound Next Week As Warmer Air Arrives

Days like today are reminders that seasons don’t end on some magical date every year. Rather old weather patterns linger as seasonal transitions occur. That’s why we are still getting cold air masses from Canada. The good news is that these lingering patterns tend to play through rather quickly and the warming spring season can’t be denied for more than a day or two. Sunshine covers much of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic today and temperatures will not get much above the low to mid 40s this afternoon. Northwest breezes will make if feel 5 to 10 degrees colder.

WEATHER RADAR

Radars are nice and quiet and precipitation is not an issue through Monday. Tonight skies will be mostly clear and Sunday morning lows will be in the mid 20s to lower 30s. The core of the cold air mass will move east Sunday so we will begin a slow warm up. Expect to see partly to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will bounce back to the upper 40s and lower 50s in the afternoon which is still a little below average.

Southwest winds will start to bring up warmer air Monday. After a chilly start Monday morning we should no worse than partly sunny skies. Monday highs will reach into the 60s inland but along the coast of New Jersey and Long Island as well as Southern and Southeast New England coastlines, temperatures will be about 10 or so degrees lower giving the cold ocean water temperatures.

A warm front will be pushing through early Tuesday morning and there might be some scattered showers or a downpour as that goes by. Once it gets far enough north any clouds that start the day will give way to sunshine and temperatures should reach into the 70s in many inland locations. Wednesday will be a very warm lovely spring day of sunshine for most of the day. Highs will reach the 70s to near 80 degrees away from the ocean. Then a cold front arrives late Wednesday and Wednesday night with some showers and thunderstorms followed by a temperature drop of 20 degrees or so Thursday with highs back in the 50s. More rain is possible Thursday night and Friday.
