Cold New Years Eve Chance For A Little Snow Tonight As 2026 Arrives

It is the final day of 2025 and we will go out both the month and the year on a cold note. We have a day where we will see sunshine though some clouds will arrive later this afternoon and evening ahead of low pressure and a cold front that will pushing through tonight. Temperatures this afternoon will be topping out mostly in the low to the mid 30s. Winds will have eased from yesterdays gusty levels. We do not expect any weather issues through the daytime but late in the evening as the front draws near, we could see some areas of snow showers or light snow.

The best chances for any accumulating snow will likely be in Connecticut and perhaps the eastern half of Long Island. A coating to an inch or so is possible before the snow ends well before daybreak. The window for any snow will probably between 9pm to 3am Thursday. So it is possible that some flakes will be flying around when we get to midnight especially in areas to the east and northeast.

Some places could see the ground whitened up while in Connecticut and Eastern Long Island, an inch or 2 is possible before the snow ends. Most temperatures tonight will be in the mid to upper 20s when the ball drops. Warmer urban areas around New York City will be closer to 30 degrees or so and by morning most everyone will be down in the 20s. Any snow that is around will end shortly after midnight followed by leftover clouds giving way to some clearing.

Behind the cold front comes another surge of cold air and the will be carrying us right through the weekend with below normal temperatures. Also we expect mostly dry conditions to be with us at least through Sunday and into the start of next week. Thursday New Year’s Day should be no worse than partly sunny and breezy at times with most highs just in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Skies will be mainly clear Thursday night with Friday morning lows in the teens to near 20 degrees. Friday will be no worse than partly sunny with highs once again reaching the upper 20s and lower 30s except for areas in South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania where we could see highs reaching the low and middle 30s. The weekend is shaping up to be dry and cold with no precipitation issues.
