Cold Into Monday, Rain Tuesday & Wednesday

We have colder air arrive today and tonight as has been advertised for the last few days and that cold is nothing more than inside the context of what is average for this time of year. Gradually we will see it turn partly sunny from north to south today as the dry push wedges southward. Skies will be clear everywhere tonight as the cloud line shifts well south and morning lows drop into the 20s and lower 30s.

Monday we will see a good deal of sunshine to start but with the high going out to the northeast and the beginnings of a northeast to east wind, some clouds are likely to come in later in the day and at night setting us up for some rain on Tuesday.

Low pressure is forecast to head to the Great Lakes with a trailing cold front. There is a little offshore wave that develops on the warm front that could enhance the rain along the coast and points east by a little bit. Rainfall amounts look to be in the half inch to an inch range.

RAINFALL FORECAST ENDING THURS. 1AM

The rain should be done during Wednesday afternoon from west to east and Thursday and Friday look good. Models are again showing something along the coast for next weekend which looks want to head more east than north and a lot will depend on how strong that upper air system is in the southern stream and if there is enough “room” for it to lift up. It would be a rain event with no real cold air in case you were wondering.

Longer term beyond this weekend there doesn’t appear to be major changes in the scheme of things across North America for the next 10 days or so. As usual the models beyond day 10 try to change things up a little for the umteenth time and as we have said many times, the pattern across Northern Canada and across the Arctic back to Alaska and Siberia needs to change.

Later today Joestradamus will be taking a more in depth look at the long range.
