Cold Front Very Slowly Moving Eastward Improvement Comes Wednesday

Rainfall totals as of this morning have been substantial with some areas in Northern New Jersey having received 4-5 inches of rain. Other areas area catching up with the rain we saw overnight and this morning. We obviously still have more work to do in order to see general improvement in weather conditions. A second wave of low pressure is south of Long Island this morning producing flash flooding there. Flash Flood Watches continue from the northeast counties of New Jersey across NYC, the lower Hudson Valley to Southern New England while west and south of there right now no flash flood watches are posted. The satellite picture this morning shows a ton of clouds going back to the west as we wait for a third wave of low pressure to move northeastward this afternoon. That should start to pivot the clouds to the east and move all of this offshore.

The first wave of low pressure brought the severe weather yesterday. The second wave has brought rain overnight into this morning. Now a third wave is showing up to the southwest of NYC annd moving northeast while the area of rain itself is pivoting to the east. This is the last batch of rain we will deal with into this afternoon. Local radars show the gap in between. Flash flooding is still possible given the saturated ground and the very low threshold we have today.

Let’s move on to improving weather conditions which should come late today and tonight. Temperatures today will be cool and not out of the low to mid 70s which is a huge change from what we saw this weekend. Then clouds should break up tonight and sunshine returns for the rest of the week. Low humidity will be with us with reasonable temperatures into the 80s by day and 60s to near 70 at night. This will cover us through Thursday.

We should be able to hold on to the reasonable humidity into Friday but temperatures will start to move higher into the middle and a few upper 80s. This next high is going out to the northeast off the New England coast which will bring the humidity up over the weekend. Temperatures will move higher as well but we are looking at 80s to near 90 and not the extreme heat of last weekend. No rain is forecast beginning Wednesday and lasting I think right through Sunday.
