Cold Front Approaching With Showers

Maybe A Little Wet Snow Overnight Cold Into the Weekend

We have a cold front that is approaching us today from the west. Low pressure is in Eastern Canada and the trailing front extends southward into the Appalachians. There isn’t a whole lot of moisture with this front and ahead of it today, south to southwest winds will help to bring temperatures to the upper 40s and lower 50s for highs. Some showers may start popping up this afternoon inland but I think for much of Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England, today should be dry, though there will be a fair amount of cloud cover especially later this afternoon.

Tonight we look for some showers and after midnight cold air will come in behind the front. Some areas could see a change to wet snow as temperatures fall quickly to the low and middle 30s but it will be uneven, that is some areas may not see any change at all. By daybreak the precipitation will be done and Thursday will be a windy cold day with some ineffective sunshine and temperatures holding mostly in the low to mid 30s.

Thursday night should be cold, clear and breezy with morning lows Friday in the teens to around 20 in the warmest urban location. Friday should be a decent day of sunshine. Winds will start to turn to the southwest as we set up the next cold front that is coming over the weekend. Highs Friday will be in the low to mid 30s. A warm front going by to the north might set off a few snow showers Friday night.

Over the weekend we have another cold front that will be approaching and the moisture with this front is limited. We are going to see temperatures come up a little Saturday with clouds and some sun. Highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. The cold front passes Saturday night with little fanfare but another cold air mass starts to build in Sunday and temperatures will be in the 30s. We will be watching for the possibility of a wave developing on the cold front offshore that might graze coastal areas with some snow late Sunday or Sunday evening. Right now we regard this as a long shot. Next week looks very cold especially Monday night and Tuesday when we expect to see temperatures in the upper teens to mid 20s for the highs of the day.
