Cold Air Snow Chance Wednesday Night

The strong winds of yesterday continue to ease today and it is much better out there. We have sunshine in the forecast today though there will be a few patchy clouds around. The large storm to the notheast now pulling slowly away from New Foundland is bringing down colder air from the Plains. Temperatures today will not get much above the mid to upper 30s. On the  US satellite picture this morning we sit inside a large are of dry air. To the west in the Northern Plains, energy from a West Coast weather system is getting ejected eastward.

REGIONAL RADAR

Radars are essentially quiet this morning other than a little bit of lake effect that is still going on across Lake Ontario and Lake Erie but this should be done soon enough. Tonight is setting up to be a rather cold night with most lows in the teens to lower 20s by Wednesday morning.

Cold Air Snow Chance Wednesday Night

Wednesday we will see early sunshine give way to arriving clouds as the first of 3 weather systems heads our way. Nothing much has changed from yesterday with this. We continue to lie on the southern edge of the snow shield that will be moving through. Snow amounts here will be on the order of as little as a coating in areas just south of NYC to as much as an inch or 2 as you head north into the Hudson Valley and into Connecticut. My thoughts yesterday were that zero line could just as easily be where the 1 inch or even the 2 inch line is with everything a bit further to the north and this risk remains today. The system is minor and not really worth expending a whole lot of energy on. It is not as if there were the potential for a half a foot of upside here. This is a weak system this morning and later today when we look at this again, it will still be a weak system.

Early Call Snow Forecast Wednesday Night 02272019

Once this moves out another weak system will head our way for Thursday night into Friday morning. That will take a very small area of snow across parts of Southern Pennsylvania and Maryland and doesn’t look to amount to much either. This sets up a third weather system for the weekend. This is the “strongest” of the bunch relatively speaking and that looks to cut to our west bringing mostly rain unless there is a little snow or sleet at the start on Saturday.

Cold Air Snow Chance Wednesday Night

Rain arrives Saturday morning and is mostly done by early Sunday morning. Temperatures Saturday will be in the 30s and 40s. Once this system passes through a very cold high builds in and will be control the weather for much of the first part of next week.
