Coastal Storm Remains Stalled Rain Wind Coastal Flood Warnings Continue

The coastal low has now entered its second day of being stalled out off the coast of Delaware. This is another day of gloom and doom with periods of rain, some of the rain will be heavy. There might even be a thunderstorm or two in the mix thanks to some tropical forcing going on around an upper air storm in Southeast Virginia/North Carolina. The sattelie shows this non tropical storm continuing to pump in moisture from the east. Clouds obviously are everywhere so even if you get a break in the rain, it will remain dark and gloom until the next band of rain moves in.

The rain area shifted a bit further north overnight and that has pushed the axis of heavy rain more into Northern New Jersey into Northeast Pennsylvania and the lower Hudson Valley while the radar shows more rain to the southeast pivoting back northwestward. That means more bands of rain today and tonight.

Most of the area from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England and points south will see 1 to 2 inches of additional rain and I suspect that due to variability, we could see some locally higher amounts/ This could create some local flash flood issues after yesterday’s big rains especially in places like Central and South Jersey. Some areas south of Route 195 saw half a foot of rain. We also have coastal flood warnings and coastal flood and advisories up and down the coast from Southwest Connecticut and Long Island southward to the Delaware coast. Slight to moderate coastal flooding will continue at high tides toady and overnight.

The northeast flow continues so obviously this will be another day where temperatures struggle all day long. The will hover in the low to mid 50s in most places and they will be in the mid 40s to near 50 tonight. Wednesday we will start to see the upper air system in North Carolina to begin moving to the northeast and that should begin to take the coastal low out to the northeast as well. But it will be another day of lots of clouds. Rain will become more occasional in nature and more spread out with some breaks. Highs will be in the 50s to near 60.

Thursday and Friday look to be two decent days with sunshine finally come back Thursday. We do have a cold front coming Friday where there might be a shower or two late in the day as the front goest by. Otherwise much of the time late week should be fine with highs back into the 70s both days. This will be followed by a shot of cool air coming in for the weekend but it will be a nice weekend with sunshine for both Saturday and Sunday.
