Friday’s storm is still sitting offshore as the satellite picture shows this morning which is keeping the back edge of the clouds right along the coast. To the east northeast there is a trough that is rotating southwestward today which will keep the cloud line relatively close by and along the coast over Long Island and Southeastern New England there could be some rain and snow showers later today into tonight. The wind is still a bit on the busy side at times with gusty winds into the 25 to 30 mph range. Overall not the best of days but not the worst either. To the west of the coast there will be more opportunity for some sunshine. Coastal flooding is still an issue today at the high tides.

Nothing much is going on this morning on the radars but look to the east later this afternoon into this evening as an arm of moisture rotates around the old coastal storm and clips a few areas to the east.

Monday looks like a nice day with the storm to the east just far enough offshore to allow for more sunshine and highs in the 40s. Tuesday we start with some sunshine but look for clouds to begin to increase as the next storm system heads our way from the Northern Plains. Highs will be into the 40s.

Once again like Friday’s storm it will be a dying primary low with a developing secondary along the coast. How fast that secondary takes over will tell us how much snow occurs. The strong upper low developing overhead presents another opportunity for dynamic cooling. The bulk of the snow for our area will probably fall late Wednesday into Wednesday night as the low strengthens. Weather models all show this pretty well. This could develop into a rather tight storm with the upper air system cutting off overhead.

There will be much to watch here. The tight development of this will probably create a rather tight zone of 6 inch plus snows for somebody. The atmosphere is colder this time around going into this storm and we will see another round of dynamic cooling impacts with the upper air system swinging overhead. Specific questions regarding snow amounts are short range forecast problems so we will wait for at least another day.
