Rain is developing on the radar out in the ocean and the latest HRRR model and NAM model both bring the rain shield in faster and expand the coverage a little further to the east. The coastal low is tracking a shade further north and west. Due to this slight shift a COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT for Nassau County as well as New York City for Friday. The small storm system is combining with today’s new moon to create high spring tides and these are the highest spring tides of the season.

The morning commute will be a wet one as the rain shield shifts inland. The rain is coming in from the southeast and moving northwestward around the periphery of the uppper air storm which is moving northward just inland of the coast.

These ocean lows tend to outperform in terms of the volume of rain they can produce. Look for some heavy downpours this morning as the rains sweep inland. Rainfall amounts should be at least in the 1/2 to 3/4 inch range with an area of 1 inch plus rains over New Jersey which should get the most out of this.

Both the HRRR model and the NAM model precipitation amounts from this are about the same. The rains should taper off from east to west during Friday afternoon though they may take a little longer to move out of New Jersey from east to west.
